Starry Night Purchases Butte KOA Journey, Expanding to New Areas of Montana

04/12/2022

With the purchase of the Butte KOA Journey in Butte, Montana, Starry Night Lodging is making moves into new parts of Montana, while continuing to focus on creating more sustainable lodging solutions. We sat down with Eric Sheckleton, co-owner of Starry Night Lodging, to get his perspective on the area. Here’s the rundown of what to expect at the new property, and how you can best enjoy all that Butte has to offer.

What to Expect at the Butte KOA Journey

The Butte KOA Journey hosts more than 75 RV spaces, with sites that can accommodate a rig up to 95 feet. More than 25 campsites offer safe spaces for campers to sleep in the outdoors, with options for water and electricity hookups. Six cabins are also available for those who prefer to have their own space indoors.

On the grounds, campers can enjoy the pool, open June to September, or take the family pooch out for a play session in the on-site dog park. You can kick back in communal areas by the fire pit, and enjoy the big sky. All ages will enjoy the outdoor games in the pocket park and sifting through dirt to find gems and fossils in the sluice box Showers, laundry, and a mart make this location comfortable enough to stay for extended periods.

With wifi available, you’ll never have to skip out on adventuring in favor of that Zoom call—you can enjoy the best of both work and play. You’ll find propane, firewood, snacks, drink and gifts available for sale, so there’s no need to make a run to the store for those essentials.

The Butte KOA Journey is open from April to October, closing for the winter season.

Sustainability Matters at the Butte KOA

At every property owned by Highline Adventures, sustainability is a priority. Under KOA’s Kamp Green program, Highline will work toward certifying the Butte KOA Journey as a Kamp Green location. This process requires educating staff and guests on green practices, partnering with environmentally supportive organizations, and doing the work to make eco-friendly improvements to the campground. Efforts also include implementing energy conservation, water conservation and waste management systems on the property.

What Makes Butte Special

Central Location

“For road trippers going between the two national parks, the location of the Butte KOA Journey is ideal,” Eric said. “It’s on a heavily traveled route, near the intersection of two interstates.”

There’s also a three- to five-year federal and city plan to make the surrounding area into park lands, which makes this location an ideal spot to add to the roster of Highline Adventures properties. Butte is also a short drive to major cities like Bozeman, Missoula and Helena.

A Historic Gem

The history of Butte is incredibly rich, perfect for history buffs who want to explore the mining town and the boom and bust era of the Copper Kings. Whether you’re interested in seeing the Berkeley Pit or exploring Evel Knievel’s old stomping grounds, you won’t have to travel far. When it comes to getting around town and exploring the historic sights, the property is located next to the Chamber of Commerce where the Trolley Tours depart.

Outdoor Recreation

Butte is close to recreational gem mining areas in Phillipsburg and Helena, so rockhounds can try out the sluice boxes onsite, and then go pro without driving far from their base camp. You can also jump off onto the Continental Divide Trail and other area trails, or hit up some single track designed for mountain biking without having to go far. And as a stopping point perfectly posed between Glacier and Yellowstone, Butte just might make you want to stay a bit longer.

A Vibrant Commmunity

“The community is very tight-knit and yet also so friendly and welcoming,” said Eric.

Butte is home to a U.S high altitude speed skating oval, a water park, and celebrations like the Montana Folk Festival. Highline is excited to be a part of a revitalized community filled with potential.
